Accessing an Outlook Mac users calendar in Outlook for Windows

There are some quirks when it comes to integration between the Windows and Mac version of Outlook. For example, the normal “request access to calendar” process in the Windows version doesn’t work when you want to view a Mac users calendar. I figured out an easy fix though. If you can’t see the calendar of an Outlook Mac user in your environment then follow these instructions.

A Mac users name won’t appear by default in your list of calendars you can open. You must open the Mac users calendar first using the “open calendar” button in the ribbon at the top of the screen. The icon is a calendar with a green plus sign. Then choose "open calendar using address book” and then look up the person and select them from the list. Then near the bottom of this screen click on Calendar. Now that persons name will appear in your list of available calendars and you should be able to see the persons calendar information.

Guess I'm moving the blog over to blogger officially

I have been a Posterous user for a while. As you may know, they have shut down after the team was acquired by Twitter. Obviously, I dragged my feet on this one. Fortunately, I had Posterous set to cross-post pretty much everything I posted there to also post to this blog. But the images were all hosted from Posterous. So, as you can see, most of the blog posts that are supposed to have an image in them instead have a nice blank placeholder. Posterous did make an export feature available and sent out repeated warnings to users about getting their content out of there before the site went down for good. I did go through that process but now I can't find the export file. Oh well, no big deal. I just need to go find the original images and upload them.

New posts will appear here and, as I get to it, older posts will get their images back.  Stay tuned.

What I now do to help reduce payment card fraud when I eat out #PCI

If you closely review your card statements and need to track receipts for expenses then you may have experienced this first hand. The scam is that the wait staff adjusts the tip and the total amount of your check by making small "additions" to your writing after you leave.  This has happened to me more than once.  I had someone at a restaurant in Fort Worth do this for an additional 50 cents. Seriously.

What I now do is to write out the amount below the total and above the signature. I actually don't know if it will help but I have not had to deal with another instance of this type of fraud since I started doing this.  It will be pretty clear looking at the receipt if the numbers don't match the words.  And, in my opinion, more defensible when you need to call and refute an overcharge.  Another thing I do is to take a picture of the completed and signed receipt.

A while back I wrote about tips on protecting your payment card when making retail purchases.  Check them out and let me know if you find them helpful.
